Baby, Baby, Baby…. ohhhhhh!

Sorry Biebs, but I did in fact take my title from your song… its only that part of the song that has been stuck in my head on repeat and as a result, I’ve been singing it to my adorable little baby that has been growing inside of me.

Today I am 28 weeks and 4 days pregnant, which pushes me into the 29th week and third, and final, trimester. I last updated this blog at 20 weeks, I believe. I know its been almost 2 months since I last updated but I have a good excuse, I swear. Being pregnant is awesomely tiring… working a high stress, very physical security job is also awesomely tiring. Put those two together and you can see why I spend most of my down time sleeping, attending doctor appointments, or bemoaning my current pregnancy-induced aches and pains (Hello backache, swollen feet/ankles, sciatica pain in my hips and legs… wah wah wah!).

I don’t truly have a “day off”… like ever. The two days I’m not working is usually spent in the doctors offices of those helping me navigate this pregnancy safely. If I’m not in a doctors office, I’m reading up on birthing options, creating party favors for my baby shower (!!!), or attending to the household chores that I’ve been neglecting (see also: too much time spent bemoaning pregnancy pains).

The father of my child will no longer be mentioned here on my blog. While he will be a part of my child’s life, he won’t be affecting my daily life+child+diabetes equation as we have fully separated and parted ways…

Back to the good stuff… Baby is kicking and squirming inside me right now like a little dance champion… maybe it’s the iced skinny vanilla latte… or maybe he’s already looking forward to being a huge part of my life and my blog (I think its the iced latte…).

For those that are curious… here is the layout of all the doctor appointments I’ve had since conceiving my child…

2/8/2012- first appointment with the ob!
2/15/12- first ultrasound to confirm viable pregnancy/ consultation with ob to plan further doctor appointments and go over the basics
2/15/12- Endo appt

3/14/12- OB appt
3/14/12- High Risk (maternal fetal medicine doctors…)
3/14/12- EKG appointment (To check heart function… because pregnancy and diabetes can cause a lot of stress… if only they knew the stress I was going through….)
3/21/12- OB appt
3/28/12- OB appt

4/11/12- High Risk
4/11/12- OB appt
4/18/12- OB appt
4/25/12- OB appt

5/2/12- High Risk

7/17/12- Fetal Echo appt/another level 2 ultrasound
7/25/12- OB appt
7/25/12- High Risk

A1cs…
2/15/12- 7.1 (down from 7.6 at the last appt in November)
5/15/12- 6.5
7/13/12- 6.6

There has also been two 24-hour urine collections to check for kidney issues… I don’t remember the first one (it was some where within the first 3 months) and I turned the last one in on 7/13/12. Both collections showed negative for protein… a good sign!

Blood pressure hangs out in the 110/70 to 120/80 range… also a good sign!

That is 30 appointments so far and all but one is about an hour away… that’s a lot of driving! Starting next week I’ll be seeing the OB every week until 32 weeks when I go in twice weekly… one day will be the non-stress test, the other day will be a growth ultrasound.

Right now baby is in the 75th percentile for height and weight… which surprisingly, no one is really concerned about, but my blood sugar control from here to the end will determine whether I have a 7 pound baby or a 10 pound baby… right now he is only 3 pounds, 3 ounces. Knowing that super tight blood sugar control is super vital, especially right now, I made an investment… I bought a printer that is also a scanner/copier and a fax machine so I can fax my blood sugars over to the high risk doctors semi-daily along with any changes in basal or bolus rates. Nerd/Technology excitement!

Whew… that is a lot! Another post will be coming soon with pictures :)
